Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters
Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters
A few weeks after his visit to the Museum of Television and Radio (see Our Miss Brooks for a description of that visit), Dennis Potter located all the scripts for the radio program Our Miss Brooks, marked "As Broadcast," at the American Radio Archives, located at the Thousand Oaks Library, in Thousand Oaks, California. While at that library, Dennis was introduced to all but one of the scripts for the Jeff Chandler radio drama The Private Practice of Dr. Dana; many of that program's shows were thought to have been lost.
Sometime later, an executive secretary at KNX-AM, a CBS radio station once located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California, told Dennis to visit Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters in order to find back copies of the magazine Radio Life, a predecessor of TV Guide. Dennis scored better than that: he found a complete, bound set of the magazine. Located in the basement of a bank at the corner of Sunset & Vine (on the property that used to be NBC Radio City), Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters is the largest private collection of recorded radio programs on tapes, disc and scripts. Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters and the American Radio Archives are expected to be housed under one roof in the near future at the Thousand Oaks Library.
