Our Miss Brooks
Our Miss Brooks
In 2001, Dennis Potter went to the Museum of Television and Radio in Beverly Hills, California, but wasn't able to find the information he needed on Jeff Chandler or the radio series Our Miss Brooks in which Chandler portrayed Eve Arden's love interest, the bashful biologist, Philip Boynton.
On his way out of the museum, Dennis visited the museum store, asking the store manager if there was a book in print that listed the episodes and program information as well as the history of Our Miss Brooks (there were similar books in his store, including one that covered the Lux Radio Theatre: Lux Presents Hollywood: A Show-by-Show History of the Lux Radio Theatre and the Lux Video Theatre, 1934-1957 (McFarland, 1995). The manager said that he didn't know if such a book existed; Dennis inquired further, asking if the manager knew where Dennis might find the radio scripts for Our Miss Brooks or if they even existed. The manager suggested that Dennis contact CBS (Our Miss Brooks was a CBS Radio program); Dennis thought, It's too bad that such a book doesn't exist, but caught himself (and the manager) by surprise when Dennis stated most decisively: "There'll be one if I have anything to say about it!"
